I could see when people saw the cover and title on the ad, but wouldn\u2019t buy the book, meaning the book\u2019s description wasn\u2019t converting those people who clicked the ads into buyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And once my description was tweaked, I could see how much better it was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tactics authors use for non-fiction and fiction are completely different. Have a description that intrigues and drives a sense of desire to know more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our guest on this episode, Bryan Cohen, suggests putting three main elements into your <a href=\"https:\/\/kindlepreneur.com\/write-test-book-description\/\">book description<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The hook to entice the buyer<\/li><li>The introduction to the protagonist(s)<\/li><li>A little synopsis\/cliffhanger to make buyers want more<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Bryan even suggests spending 80 percent of your time writing the description on just the hook, which is the preview Amazon shows shoppers so it\u2019s important for it to be good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For non-fiction authors, the transformational benefits are what you want to focus on. Many authors think buyers are interested in bullet points listing what\u2019s in the book, but they\u2019re more interested in the transformational benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>\u201cFor non-fiction, people love to list their old table of contents. They love to list, oh, here's what you'll learn inside. And then this bullet point list of 20 things. No, no one cares that you have so much stuff in it. They care that you have the right stuff and they care that the contents of the book are going to change them.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Bryan suggests authors write 20 different versions with 20 different hooks, 20 character introductions, and 20 different cliffhangers as practice for getting your description just right. For non-fiction authors, I would add writing 20 different benefits.
