If your manuscript is difficult to read or doesn't follow the standard format, it's likely that the agent or editor will simply move on to the next submission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Below are the 13 steps you need to take to properly format your manuscript (including technical guidance for Microsoft Word).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pro tip:<\/em> Don\u2019t use Google Docs to write a book that\u2019s longer than 20,000 words. The online word processor can\u2019t handle large documents, leading to serious latency issues. Once you get above 15k-25k word count, it takes several seconds every time you scroll or start a new paragraph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Use the industry standard page size of 8.5\u201dx11\u201d<\/strong> \u2014 the exact dimensions of a standard piece of paper.
